One of Mark Seed’s customers in Correctionville, IA has confirmed the presence of spider mites.  If you have some yellowing spots in your fields, it may be sandy soil or an infestation of spider mites.   They appear to be just affecting the earlier varieties at this point but this does not mean that the later varieties are unaffected or safe.  Contact your current or local chemical representative for the best method to spray and treat them.  You will want to make sure to spray the appropriate chemical that will not kill the beneficial insects that are eating the spider mites

Bean Leaf Beetles & Aphids

It has been brought to our attention by some customers in Minnesota, that the Bean Leaf Beetle infestation is under way which is a big concern for us this year.  Because the beetles winter over each year, we never quite know how much infestation there is going to be.  The warm winter weather has not killed many of the adults.  An easy way to tell if you have them, it looks like someone took a shotgun to the field, there will be a bunch of holes in the leaves.  The best thing is to spray with Warrior and a pound of sugar.  Keep in mind that even though you have killed the adults, they may have already laid eggs.  The larvae will eat the nodules off the soybean roots during the end of June, first part of July.  When they reemerge in the middle of July, make sure you spray with Warrior and a pound of sugar again.   The sugar will give you a couple of weeks of residual and help curve the damage that the adults may have caused.  Be advised, the aphids will have the potential to be very a large problem also this year with the warm winter and lack of rainfall.  If you see any aphids, you need to spray the field immediately because by the time you spray, they may have doubled in population.

    We at Mark Seed would like to thank you for your continued use and support of Cyst Tech.  The feedback we have been getting back since Cyst Tech was introduced has been nothing short of astounding and we are truly grateful to hear your stories.
    One thing we have gathered due to your feedback is that farmers with high cyst counts will notice a much healthier plant because of lowered cyst nematode counts, which makes a healthier root system.  This allows for your soybeans to live a full normal life and not prematurely die.  This is the reason that although you have Cyst Tech and Brand X in the same area or adjacent field, your soybeans will most likely mature a little later.
    This has allowed some of our growers to enhance their yields with commercial, manure, or a foliar feed fertility programs.  They are seeing a nice return on investment now that they have a healthy plant.  Most foliars can be tank mixed with you herbicides so you have no extra trip across the field.  If you have any questions about Mark Seed’s high yield program please feel free to contact your representative or call the office at 1-800-383-6275.
